Sorry for the delay, but I’ve purposefully neglected delving fully into longer fics because I tend to get caught up in them and I can’t be distracted due to school at the moment. I did quite a bit of research though (which increased the size of my to-read list, so thanks for that!), because I wanted to do your request justice, and this is what I’m currently able to recommend. 

Per your request, all of these fics are over 30,000 words and multi-chaptered. You never specified if you preferred canon universe or alternate universe fics, so I included a bit of both.

There appear to be some really, really incredible fics that are still currently works-in-progress, but I tried to steer clear of them in order to fulfill your criteria. However, these two are fantastic (and the first one is nearly complete). I felt that they are both far too great and original to ignore.

A Few Housekeeping Matters

I hope everyone’s week is going well so far! I have made some alterations on the blog and want to take a quick moment to address a few of them.

Tags Index Page: I have updated the contents and revised the set-up for the Tags Index Page. You’ll notice a few differences, as well as a few additions. Please let me know if you run into any inconsistencies or mistakes. I tried to double check everything, but I apologize in advance for anything that I may have missed. 

Blue Eyes vs. Hazel Eyes Issue: One of the additions you may notice are two new tags in Alec’s Character Themes section: “Blue-Eyed Alec” and “Hazel-Eyed Alec”. This is in response to several recent posts in the tag about people being frustrated with Blue-Eyed Alec being represented in fics that are tagged “Shadowhunters” on A03. While I tend to feel similarly, there are some fantastic fics that unfortunately describe Alec as having blue eyes but fit every other piece of criteria that I use to rec fics. I do not want to lose quality simply in the name of avoiding these fics, but I also do not want to minimize people’s understandable complaints. In order to balance this, I have created these new tags. If a fic specifies one or the other, I will be sure to tag them from here on out. I will also eventually be going back through the recs that I have already posted in order to comply with this.

“Well, maybe I have better things to do than waiting around to watch some overrated warlock do magic tricks,” he commented a little defensively but it was the truth. He always had something to do and even when they were not out demon hunting, he had either paperwork to do or train.

“Pardon me, but I’m not just some overrated warlock. I’m the High Warlock of Brooklyn and that title is well deserved, if I may say so. And I’m appalled that you refer to my magic as petty tricks. You Nephilim always act to high and mighty, yet you’re constantly in need of some tricks from overrated warlocks to help you out of some unnecessary dilemma,” a foreign voice interjected and Alec whirled around, fingers instinctively curling around his bow to be ready to attack if need be. The owner of the voice was not what Alexander had expected, to be honest.

With Magnus it’s different. Magnus doesn’t have to stay with Alec, for the first time Alec feels as if he has to make an effort to keep someone he likes interested in him. And that scares him, how dependent he’s become on Magnus and how willing he is to do things just to keep him around. It makes him feel pathetic. He knows that eventually Magnus will get tired of him, everyone does, and it’ll break his fucking heart.”
