Summary:

The life seems good for the Shadowhunters of the New York City Institute. But not for long. In front of them there stood two terror-stricken children with pale faces and tear-stained cheeks. Though they seemed well dressed, their clothes were covered in dirt and their feet were clad in mud. They were holding each other like a lifeline and looking at him with a look Alec couldn’t quite decipher. There was fear, relief, and uncertainty in the way they stared at him.
