Even from here Magnus could tell he was tall. Tall, slightly disheveled and very attractive. He was looking easily over the sea of heads, obviously searching for someone, when he lifted his eyes and for one small, impossible moment, he looked right at Magnus. Magnus savored the thrill that shot straight down his spine and suddenly felt a lot less bored.
Of which Magnus Bane, party-thrower, glitter-abuser and all-round extraordinaire, is bored. That is, until a chance meeting with Alexander Lightwood.
Share your appreciation for Shadowhunters fics and their authors! Writers, readers, and all shippers are welcome!
Fanfiction has become such a vital piece of fandom. Readers are able to see different sides to their favorite characters and relive their OTPs falling in love over and over again, across time and in different universes. Without fics, fandom would be a much different place. Fic authors are often the unsung heroes behind the scenes. They choose to take time away from their responsibilities to produce and update fics for our enjoyment, as well as their own.
The Shadowhunters fandom is especially lucky when it comes to brilliant fics that feature our favorite characters and pairings, but recent events concerning plagiarism have understandably created some tension. Because of this, I feel that it is even more important that we take a moment to acknowledge these phenomenal authors and their creative works.
In order to do this, this blog will not post any fic recs on November 1st, National Author’s Day. Instead, I would like to post messages about this side of the fandom in an attempt to create a bit more positivity and solidarity between authors and readers.
In order to do that, I need your help. Please take as much time as you would like to write a short response about your experiences in the fandom as a writer and/or reader. If you are a fic author, please write about your perspective as a writer; if you are a fic reader, please write about your appreciation for authors and their fics.
Submit your response by using the fillable form here. It will remain open until October 20th at 9:00 P.M., EST.
For more information on this event’s guidelines and prompt ideas for your response(s), please read below the cut.
*Shout-out to @killjoyrow for the feedback and support!
Although there are very few guidelines for this event, I have listed them below:
Following recent events in the fandom, I really want this to be a positive event where we all show our solidarity for the amazing authors in the Shadowhunters fandom. As such, I reserve the right to not post any and all negative responses. All others will be posted on November 1st.
Although this blog recs Malec-centric fics, everyone is welcome to participatein this event regardless of what pairings you prefer or kinds of fics you write.
If you both read and write fics, please feel free to respond to either or both of these areas.
The fillable form includes a “Background Information” section where responders are asked to include their first name and/or pseudonym and the country/continent they are located in. This is in an attempt to personalize the event, acknowledge how beautifully widespread the fandom is, and provide credit. If you include your pseudonym on A03/FF.Net, I will provide a link to your page, and if you include your Tumblr URL, I will tag you in your response.
Not sure what to write about in your response? I have included possible prompts below to help you get started. Please do not feel limited by these; you are free to write whatever you want to show your appreciation for writing and reading fics.
Fic Authors: Please write about your experiences as authors. Prompt ideas include:
What does writing mean to you?
What does sharing your writing mean to you?
What are your experiences as a fandom writer? Is there a specific memory that stands out to you, as a fic author, as being especially significant?
What is your favorite thing about writing fics? (I.E., reimagining your favorite characters, connecting with your readers and other authors, etc.)
Fic Readers: Please write about your appreciation for authors and their fics. Prompt ideas include:
What does being able to read fics mean to you?
What is your favorite thing about reading fics?
If you could thank fic authors for one thing, what would it be?
Magnus had drug his heels about dating after Camille, but when Raphael sets him up with a handsome stranger, he might rethink everything he’s ever thought about blind dates.
Alec Lightwood wasn’t used to doing things for himself. He had grown up looking after his siblings and learning how to be the perfect Shadowhunter: never had he considered even the idea of falling in love.
For over a century, Magnus Bane had closed himself off to feeling anything for man or woman. After a particularly nasty break up, he worried that opening his heart up again would result in nothing but another heartbreak.
When the two of them meet at a mundane coffee shop, it’s a rush of feelings that Alec has never felt before, and that Magnus had thought he would never feel again. The only problem? Both think the other is a mundane, and for centuries, Downworlders and Shadowhunters have been forbidden from falling in love.
I’ve never had huge success on Twitter – mostly because I don’t have much experience with it – but I created an account for this blog yesterday.
Running the blog will always come first, so I can’t promise that it will always be active.
At this point it will only be used to help highlight events, but I may use it in the future for other things. That being said, if you’re interested please feel free to follow by clicking here.
He was a soldier. War wasn’t frightening to him. Blood and destruction was woven into his heart, into the fabric of who he was. The Angels had built them in their image – as warriors, protectors. War didn’t frighten him. Living did. But for Magnus? He was willing to try.
