Summary:

The alliance rune means everything to Magnus. When Alec works the night patrol and Magnus is left alone in their bed, a sudden pulse of elation soothes his wracked soul. Sharing his magic with Alec, who has such a childlike whimsy for sorcery, feels more intimate than any time they spend between silk sheets. Knowing Alexander is safe and always with him — it’s more than Magnus could have ever dreamed of. A bond, something tangible keeping them tethered so they can always find their way back to each other.

When a mission goes awry, and Alec almost perishes at the hands of a unique demon, the others start to notice something’s off about him. He heals too fast, his skin’s devoid of any wrinkles, and he still has the body of a twenty year old. He seemingly hasn’t aged a bit, and neither has Clary. While the gang investigates how to banish the demon back to Edom, they learn more about the alliance rune than they ever thought possible.

Summary:

There’s no hiding the blood crusting on Alec’s ribs, the mauled opening in his chest. While not bleeding, Magnus knows the extent of the injury is serious. Fatally, so.

The demon’s claw has nicked Alec’s heart. More than nicked– it had cut into Alec’s heart, severing an artery. Magnus had tried desperately in the alley, but he couldn’t knit Alec’s heart together. There’s a painful irony in there somewhere about broken hearts but if Magnus allows himself to travel down that path he may never make it back.

Magnus waits for Alec to wake up.

His forehead was scrunched in concentration and Alec was reminded that, unlike himself, Magnus didn’t have a stamina rune to protect him from exhaustion. He didn’t seem too affected, though, and his attacks were only getting stronger, as if he was getting angrier and angrier every second the vile creatures spent ruining their night.
