One Final Thank You

Before the Annual Review ends, I need to give one final shout-out. While this event has been primarily linked to the running of this blog and the reception individual recs have received over the past year, I would like to take the time to thank each and every fic writer in the fandom. Your time, effort, creativity and genuine love for these characters does not go unappreciated. Without you, this blog would not exist. Thank you for what you do.

THIS YEAR’S EVENTS

Year-Round: Holiday Events
Fic recs were based on popular U.S. public holidays. This past year, this included Father’s Day, Fourth of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas, New Year’s, and Valentine’s Day.

March – May: 2A Episode Collection Event
Starting on March 13 and ending on May 11, this event included fic recs based on the first ten episodes of Season 2. Spanning ten days, it resulted in 84 recs being posted.

May – July: Fic Preference Poll
Following three weeks of voting, fic recs were created and posted that honored readers’ fic preferences based on amount of chapters, genre, and themes. Spanning two weeks, it resulted in 49 recs being posted.

June – August: 2B Episode Collection Event
Starting on June 3rd and ending on August 21, this weekend event included eleven rounds of episode-based fics recs. Each Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, these recs primarily featured fics based on what happened in the most recent episode, as well as what was teased for the next episode through promotional photographs, videos, and interviews. It resulted in 147 recs being posted.

September 1: Back to Hogwarts Event
September 1st marks the day Hogwarts students return to school. During this event, a few Wizarding World crossovers were posted in celebration.

September 11 – September 17: Birthday Event
In honor of Alec’s birthday in September, this was a week-long event dedicated to birthday fics centered around both Alec and Magnus. Prevalent themes included birthdays, aging, and family.

September 22: Autumn in New York Event
To mark the first official day of fall, fic recs revolved around autumn themes.

October 1 – October 30: A Tag a Day Event
To ensure that diverse fics were being posted, each day was dedicated to a single theme from the Tags Index page. It resulted in 107 fics recs, nearly 967,000 words worth of fics!

November 1: Author Appreciation Day
Following the plagiarism that took place in the fandom in late September, I felt that National Author’s Day was a great time to celebrate the amazing fic writers we have in the fandom. Taking a full twenty-four hours off from posting recs, instead it consisted of posts from readers and authors sharing their experiences and appreciation for fics and how meaningful they are in the fandom.

December 14 – December 25: Twelve Days of Christmas Event
Winter and holiday-themes fic recs featuring domesticity, family, and fluff will dominate.

Thanks for a great year!

To My Followers: A Look Back on the First 365 Days

It has officially been one year since I started this blog and what an adventure it has been. What started as a small side project, quickly grew and became a significant part of my life. I’ve been lucky enough to interact with so many of you simply because we all love Magnus, Alec, and the way in which they are lovingly portrayed on screen by Harry and Matt and in fics by the amazing authors within this fandom. Thank you all so much for sticking with me and continuing to support this blog through its ups and downs. Running it hasn’t always been easy and we’ve hit a few snags along the way, but maintaining it has always been worth it. I’m really looking forward to continuing this journey with all of you over the course of the next year!

What is an Annual Review?

Rather than post new material, today will be dedicated to recognizing the best-liked fics and quotes from the past year, as decided by all of you based on your likes and reblogs, along with a few of my favorites thrown in. Then tomorrow we’ll start a new year, filled with new recs, new authors, new quotes, and new events.

The Annual Analytics will be posted shortly, featuring all of the information listed above.

This is also a great time to evaluate the blog. I would like to hear your input on the successful elements of the blog, as well as the elements that could use a little work. Please feel free to weigh in on as much or as little as you would like. Thanks for your input!

You can weigh in on blog navigation, blog events, and blog tags in a poll that will be posted shortly.

Celebrate the love between Magnus and Alec with the Valentine’s Day event on February 14.

In order to mark the one-year anniversary of this blog’s creation, February 19 will be dedicated to an Annual Review. While no new fic recs will be posted, yearly analytics will be evaluated, favorite fics and quotes will be revisited, and followers will be able to take part in a poll that will help guide the future of this blog. More information on this event will be posted closer to its date.

We will mark the last month of the hiatus with the Countdown to Season 3 event. Beginning on February 20, fic recs for each episode will be posted daily leading up to the Season 3 premiere date on March 20. More information on this event will be posted closer to its start date.

Anonymous asked: Hi, I know this is probably a pain to ask, but you should add an under 1k heading 🙂 xxx

Thanks for the recommendation! However, simply reading and reccing fics already takes up the majority of my free time and I unfortunately do not have enough to re-tag two categories at the moment. I finish my internship at the end of the month, but I’m increasing my hours at my other job and with the holidays coming up my boyfriend, childhood best friend, and other family members will be coming and going pretty consistently. Obviously I need to make time for them, so I’m not sure when I’ll have the time to make such a drastic tag change. I’ll make a note of it though and consider adding it at some point. It’s definitely a good idea.

I have started the long process of transitioning the Under 5K tag to Under 1K and 1K – 5K tags. You will begin to notice the difference in current recs starting today, but it will take some time to back-track through 70 pages of recs and update everything to this new system. I will add the two new tags to the Tags Index page, but will keep the old one for navigation purposes until I finish this process. Thanks for your patience!

Anonymous asked: I had a quick question: are we allowed to rec our own fics to you?

If you would like to recommend your own fics or the fics of others, please feel free to send the title and author. I’d be more than happy to look at them. Please remember though that this does not necessarily mean that they will automatically be featured in a rec or that, if they are, they will appear quickly on the blog. The queue is typically set up at least five to seven days in advance. Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Anonymous asked: How do you choose what fics you post?

It’s kind of a complicated answer, simply because there are layers to it. A lot of it has to do with my own preferences, especially in terms of grammar, spelling, theme, and so on. For example, a few things that I tend to avoid are first-person point of view (unless it’s done really well) and spelling/grammatical errors (especially if they appear repeatedly throughout the fic and/or its description). I also tend to prefer fluff, hurt and comfort, and family fics, which is probably pretty apparent based on what I tend to rec. Part of the reason that I create events is to ensure that I read and rec a variety of fics so that it (hopefully) isn’t as noticeable.

Overall, as long as the fic is well-written and has an enjoyable storyline, it has a good chance of being recced – or recced eventually. There are a number of fics that I have read and bookmarked to rec, as well as others that I have bookmarked that I want to eventually return to and read. Unfortunately, it’s all time-sensitive.

I hope this made sense! If you’d like more information, let me know. I tried to sum everything up so I didn’t ramble, but I’d be more than happy to explain it more in-depth or answer a more specific question in regards to this.
