Cancellation News: Where Do We Go From Here?

In light of the news that broke last night, I wanted to address all of you personally. I’d be lying if I said that I’m not feeling extremely uninspired right now. I was getting ready to work on recs when the first news article came across my feed on Twitter last night and it brought my plans to a screeching halt. It was hard enough to function long enough to tweet and retweet about saving the show. There was absolutely no way that I could concentrate on reading and reccing fics about our beautiful boys with the mindset that I had at that point.

My initial reaction was to postpone the You Pick the Tag Event a week so I could spend a bit more time on the #SaveShadowhunters campaign (and I still plan on taking part in it – if you’re following the blog’s Twitter account, you’ve probably already noticed) and grieve the potential loss of the show before jumping back into reading and reccing fics. But after taking a bit of time to think about it, I have decided that the event will proceed as originally planned. This week’s installment might not include as many recs as I hoped it would, but it will take place. There has been enough upheaval already this week and the last thing that I want to do is add to that. If I can help spread even a little bit of happiness in these trying times, then that’s what I’m going to do.

The You Pick the Tag Event will begin this month. This event is designed to allow for a bit more reader participation. A hybrid of last year’s Fic Preference Poll and Tag a Day Event, readers will have the opportunity to take part in a poll every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to determine the thematic tag that will dominate the following Friday’s fic recs. The Author Appreciation Day Event will continue making progress this month. Thank You Card Writer sign-ups will close on June 12th and will operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you want to write a personalized thank you message to a fic writer in the fandom, now is your chance to do so! The Thank You Card Response Form for Part #1 of the event and Positive Message Response Form for Part #2 of the event will both open on June 19th. In order to celebrate Father’s Day and the First Day of Summer, the blog will feature fic recs related to each date on June 17th and June 21st respectively.

You Decide What’s Posted Every Friday in June & July!

During the Annual Review, participants overwhelmingly voted for the Tag a Day Event to be repeated. Planning this event was extremely time-consuming and I’m simply not in a place where I can comfortably commit to that at the moment. However, I have decided to combine elements from this event with elements from the Fic Preference Poll in order to allow for a bit more reader participation throughout June.

Here’s how it works:

  • Beginning today, a poll will be posted every Wednesday with several thematic tags that currently can be found on the Tags Index page.
  • These polls will remain open Wednesday through Friday, permitting readers to vote on which tag they would like to see represented in fic recs posted on the following Friday. The results of the poll will be posted on Saturday morning.
  • The thematic tags will be different in each week’s poll, allowing for a variety of choices and recs.
  • In the unlikely event that there is a tie between multiple thematic tags, a new poll will be opened for 24 hours on Saturday to determine the winner. The results will be posted on Sunday morning.

The poll for Week #1 of the event goes live today, Wednesday May 30th. This week’s tags? Choose between Alcohol,

Blog Milestone

The blog surpassed 1,400 followers overnight after surpassing 1,300 followers only a month ago. To say I’m constantly blown away by the amount of support it’s received is an understatement. Thank you all so much!

The 3A Episode Collection Event will end this month. This weekly, three-day event, spanning Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, will feature fic recs related to the previous week’s episode, as well as any predictions based on the upcoming episode’s promotional material. The beginning phases for Part #1 of Author Appreciation Day 2.0 kick off this month. The Shadowhunters fic writers who would like to receive a personalized thank you card may start signing up on May 1st. Following the closing of that sign-up form on May 15th, the Authors Claim List will be posted on May 26th. It will identify the authors who have signed up for the event. Limited Time Over the Next Week

Due to a personal commitment, I will be offline quite a bit over the next week. However, events will still be operating as scheduled. Everything is queued for this week’s installment of the 3A Episode Collection Event and I will have enough time to queue everything for next week’s installment.
