Author Appreciation Day Reminders

We’re down to two weeks left for participation in Author Appreciation Day!

You Pick the Tag Event: Adjusted Schedule & Voting Procedure

This event is designed to allow readers to vote for a thematic tag they would like to see primarily featured in Malec fic recs on Fridays for 8 weeks. Following the hiatus, I have adjusted the event schedule. It will now begin on September 7th and will run every Friday through October 26th.

I have also slightly altered the voting procedure. Instead of voting each week for the following Friday’s theme, I have created a Google Form that includes a poll for every week so votes can be submitted all at once. It is currently OPEN for votes and will close on September 1st at 9:00PM EST. Each poll features different thematic tags, allowing for a variety of choices and recs for each week.

The poll for the first week’s thematic tag had already run in its entirety prior to the hiatus being instated. As such, I will honor those results. Week #1 will feature recs with Arranged Marriage as a central theme. 

The polls included in the form are for Week #2 through Week #8 of the event. Here are the choices:

Blog Return Date

Following a three-month #SaveShadowhunters hiatus, I am setting September 1st as the blog’s official return date. Stay tuned for information concerning the You Pick the Tag Event, as I’m going to change things up a bit.

New Fillable Form for Finding Fics

I was doing a bit of housekeeping on the blog this morning and realized that there has been an influx of requests for finding a specific fic. While I’m more than happy to try to track them down, quite a few of them have been fairly vague and/or they do not include information that I can use to search for them on A03. This makes it extremely difficult (and less likely) for me to find them.

As a result, I have created a Google Form in an attempt to make this process easier and more likely to be successful. Please answer as many of the questions listed on it as you can in order to help me find the fic you’re looking for.

THANK YOU CARD SUBMISSION FORM IS LIVE

If you signed up to write a personalized thank you card to an author for the event, I will be sending out reminders in the next 24 hours with key information that it tailored to you specifically. It will include: 

  • Final assignments (for those who were willing to write to more than one author or had no author preference)
  • Links to the page(s) where your author posts their works
  • Link to the submission form (which you can also find here)

Please be sure to check your email and/or messages on Tumblr or Twitter for yours!

The submission form will now close on September 4th at 9:00PM EST.

Due to the craziness surrounding the cancellation and #SaveShadowhunters, I have adjusted the event schedule. This will give me about a month to get everything ready to mail and email, so please make sure you submit on time. 

A few friendly reminders: 

  • Your message does not have to be extremely long or elaborate, but please tailor it to your author(s)
  • You do not have to purchase a card or pay for postage
  • Please fill out a separate submission form for each author you are writing to

Not sure what to write about?

  • What do you like the most about their fics? (i.e. writing style, characterization, etc.)
  • Do you have a favorite fic that they’ve written? Why does it stand out?
  • Is there a quote from the narrative or piece of dialogue that stands out? Why does it mean so much to you?
  • How does their writing make you feel? Is there a specific fic that makes you feel something that is especially strong?

Short Hiatus – NOT PERMANENT

I know I said that I’d try to keep the You Pick the Tag Event on schedule, but with how much I’ve been concentrated on the #PickUpShadowhunters campaign I was only able to read and rec one fic that fits your request from last week’s voting. I think it would be best to postpone the event for one week so I can ensure you actually get the amount of content you all deserve. So on that note, Week #1’s Arranged Marraige fic recs will be posted NEXT Friday instead. 

I want to keep my attention focused on contributing to the #SaveShadowhunters campaign, but I’m only human and can only do so much at once. I am going to put the blog on a short hiatus over the weekend; I will re-evaluate the situation on Sunday night and we’ll go from there.

This is NOT a permanent hiatus. Regardless of what happens with the show, the blog will remain functional. I just want to make sure that I’m doing everything that I can to help save it. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

I’ll be on hiatus here a little while longer. I’m really sorry, but I think the campaign to save the show is really important – not to mention incredibly significant for fandoms as a whole – and I want to do everything that I can to help.

I’ve been extremely active on the account’s affiliated Twitter account and will continue to be until we actually get a statement from networks and streaming services. I’ve been providing Analytic Updates throughout the day and have created a database to keep track of hourly tweet counts for each hashtag. I have also created a blog, NotOurLastHunt, to try to connect the campaigns on different platforms a bit more cohesively, so feel free to check that out as well! 

As you can probably understand, maintaining all of this has been extremely time-consuming. But I want to reiterate that this is NOT a permanent hiatus. I WILL be back to continue this blog – I have things lined up already – but I feel that it’s necessary to focus on the #SaveShadowhunters campaign at this time.
