To many young fans, girls especially, fanfic is the first way to connect with the media they love and transform it into something of their own. It is the way to voice their preferences, what they are most interested in seeing. There are no rules about content and form: fanfiction can be a full-length novela about two characters going grocery shopping. It can be a 500-words-long character study. It is freedom for transformative creation in written form.
Having the freedom and means to take characters/plots that you love and incorporate them into something new is such a wonderful way to enjoy and interact with fiction. And even more fun that that is getting to share what you make with other people who get as much enjoyment from it as you. It’s an incredible thing to be able to write something that I get to see others read and enjoy. When it becomes something special to someone else, it’s just a wonderful feeling!

I started reading Malec fanfictions last year after the end of season 2. I missed them, so reading Malec fics could ease the long hiatus. That’s how I began. Now I just can’t stop and I need no more reasons to read fics. I really enjoy being able to watch them fall in love over and over again. I prefer multi-chapters fics but I indulge myself in one-shot when I’m super and I just really need to read something. I can’t thank the writers enough because I am not one and I admire people who can do things I can’t.

Writing in the Shadowhunters fandom has been a delightful experience starting from my first stories and I’m so grateful to every reader who ever clicked on one of those. I’m always so happy when my readers send feedback and explain how/why they liked the story and what it meant for them. I always take pleasure in plotting and writing and knowing that other people enjoy the result of this work as well is a wonderful gift. Thank you for the great time in this fandom!

Personalized Thank You Cards
One of the two major parts of Shadowhunters Author Appreciation Day this year was an opportunity for fic readers to write thank you messages to fic authors who signed up to receive one. Those messages were printed in the inside of personalized thank you cards, which featured the design pictured above on the front of them.
Personalized thank you cards were sent to twenty-seven fic writers all around the world. To view their reactions, please visit the links below.

Author Appreciation Day Is Today!
November 1st is National Author’s Day. In celebration, this blog will once again dedicate the day to celebrating our fic writers, helping foster solidarity between them and their readers, and spreading positivity within the fandom. Twenty-seven thank you cards with messages written by readers were sent to authors in late October for the event. Throughout the day today, thirty-eight positive messages submitted by authors and readers will also be posted both here and on our affiliated Twitter account. Fic recs will return tomorrow!
If you missed the sign-ups for the event but would still like to participate, please feel free to blog or tweet about your own experiences with Shadowhunters fanfiction. Tag me in your post and I’ll reblog them throughout the day. Feel free to add #SaveShadowhunters and #SHAuthorAppreciationDay too!
