I love taking Magnus and Alec and their motley crew and putting them in completely different scenarios. “What if everyone was a dragon?” “What if they were college professors?” What if, what if, what if. While I love canon, and will always be thankful to the show for giving us these characters, what I love even more is exploring their personalities outside of the show. (And if I can guarantee they always have a happily ever after, all the better.) I’ve made some great friends through this fandom, both other writers who have encouraged me and challenged me along the way, as well as the readers who are so supportive and as enthusiastic about Malec as I am. This fandom has been a gift in so many ways, and a lot of the time I view my writing as a way to give back even a small amount of the joy it has given me.

I would love to thank fic writers for continuing to push themselves in spite of their responsibilities outside of the internet and the writer’s block that plagues them. As a writer myself, I know how hard it is to keep writing through that one paragraph or concept and how tempting it is to give up on an idea, especially when it seems like all of that that hard work isn’t being appreciated as much as it should be. I hope that all of the lovely people who spend so much time providing us with beautiful stories know how loved they are and that their dedication is what keeps this fandom going.

I love to read fanfics. For some stories I can not stop, although I have to get up early the next day. I especially like AU Malec fics. The possibilities are so endlessly diverse. If I have a bad day, your fics help me through it. Sometimes I get so invested, I feel with Malec through all their ups and downs. I want to thank every author for your time, effort and hard work. You have given me many beautiful, exciting and soulful/emotional hours. As a fanfic writer I really appreciate that and I promise improvement, as far as commenting is concerned.

I would like to thank everyone who has ever liked/commented/reblogged/bookmarked any of my fics. Writing was actually something I’d gone away from, because I’d lost my spirit. I decided to post a fanfic one day for the fun of it, and it blew up. Without the amazing feedback and support I’ve gotten from all of my readers, I probably never would’ve continued writing, and I wouldn’t currently be working on my first novel (which is why I’ve been so inactive lately, sorry about that). It gives me a reason to get up in the morning, and check my emails for new comments, kudos and more. I think fan fiction is amazingly important. It allows for people to connect on a whole other level, and I’ve definitely interacted with so many cool people because of it. Besides, it has its own quirky charm to it, since it probably never would’ve happened without the internet. Either way, I’m really fucking grateful for y’all.

To many young fans, girls especially, fanfic is the first way to connect with the media they love and transform it into something of their own. It is the way to voice their preferences, what they are most interested in seeing. There are no rules about content and form: fanfiction can be a full-length novela about two characters going grocery shopping. It can be a 500-words-long character study. It is freedom for transformative creation in written form.

Having the freedom and means to take characters/plots that you love and incorporate them into something new is such a wonderful way to enjoy and interact with fiction. And even more fun that that is getting to share what you make with other people who get as much enjoyment from it as you. It’s an incredible thing to be able to write something that I get to see others read and enjoy. When it becomes something special to someone else, it’s just a wonderful feeling!

I started reading Malec fanfictions last year after the end of season 2. I missed them, so reading Malec fics could ease the long hiatus. That’s how I began. Now I just can’t stop and I need no more reasons to read fics. I really enjoy being able to watch them fall in love over and over again. I prefer multi-chapters fics but I indulge myself in one-shot when I’m super and I just really need to read something. I can’t thank the writers enough because I am not one and I admire people who can do things I can’t.

Writing in the Shadowhunters fandom has been a delightful experience starting from my first stories and I’m so grateful to every reader who ever clicked on one of those. I’m always so happy when my readers send feedback and explain how/why they liked the story and what it meant for them. I always take pleasure in plotting and writing and knowing that other people enjoy the result of this work as well is a wonderful gift. Thank you for the great time in this fandom!

Personalized Thank You Cards

One of the two major parts of Shadowhunters Author Appreciation Day this year was an opportunity for fic readers to write thank you messages to fic authors who signed up to receive one. Those messages were printed in the inside of personalized thank you cards, which featured the design pictured above on the front of them.

Personalized thank you cards were sent to twenty-seven fic writers all around the world. To view their reactions, please visit the links below.

Author Appreciation Day Is Today!

November 1st is National Author’s Day. In celebration, this blog will once again dedicate the day to celebrating our fic writers, helping foster solidarity between them and their readers, and spreading positivity within the fandom. Twenty-seven thank you cards with messages written by readers were sent to authors in late October for the event. Throughout the day today, thirty-eight positive messages submitted by authors and readers will also be posted both here and on our affiliated Twitter account. Fic recs will return tomorrow!

If you missed the sign-ups for the event but would still like to participate, please feel free to blog or tweet about your own experiences with Shadowhunters fanfiction. Tag me in your post and I’ll reblog them throughout the day. Feel free to add #SaveShadowhunters and #SHAuthorAppreciationDay too!
