Update on Tag Issue

I think I have found a way to work around Tumblr’s tag limit, so the system on the Tags Index Page should pick up results based on the written post and the tags now.

This isn’t infallible, as it can pick up results in administrative posts or asks and is especially finicky concerning pairings, but overall I think it will work better in the long run. I have gone in and adjusted everything, so the only tags that currently do not link to anything are:

  • Themes By Occupation: Pirate and Physician
  • Themes: AgingAmnesia, Arranged Marriage, Bodyguard, CrimeHistoricalHolidays, Illness, Military, OfficePretend RelationshipSingle Parent and Sports

This is because I have not posted any recs that fit them yet. That being said, several of the recs that I already have queued up for the next few weeks fit most of them (see the items in the list above). Holiday fic recs will be posted when they correspond with a certain holiday (i.e., Father’s Day fics have already been queued for Father’s Day) and the themes that are left are part of fics on my to-read list, so those links may remain empty for a while.

Hopefully this will take care of the majority of the problem, but please be patient with the system in the meantime. Out of 330 fic-related tags currently being used on this blog, only 15 (and soon to be only 7) are not currently linked to recs. That’s pretty good for a two-month-old blog.

Anonymous said: Hi 🙂 This page is really helpful, but it seems that a lot of things aren’t working. Several links, when I click them, just tells me that the URL could not be found, and the “warlock mark reveal” tag sends me to the “drugged alec” tag

Hi! First of all, thank you! As much fun as putting this blog together has been, it’s also quite a bit of work so thank you for your kind words 🙂

There are several reasons why you could be getting the “Not Found” page when clicking on a link.

  • As stated at the top of the Tags Index Page, this blog is still currently getting off the ground and, because of this, some tags have not been used yet. When I first set this blog up, I added tags that I knew certain fics on my to-rec list have used but I haven’t gotten around to reccing all of them yet. As of now, this issue should only be limited to the episode and theme links. Everything else that is represented on the Tags Index Page is there because recs have been posted that fulfill their criteria.
  • I also tend to queue recs four to five days in advance. When I do that, I try to update the tags index list at the same time so I do not forget which ones have been added to the blog. Those links will eventually work themselves out once recs are posted that fit their criteria.
  • You also have to keep in mind that I use a lot of tags in order to help readers understand what each fic brings to the table. That includes chapters, length, rating, genre, episodes, themes, secondary characters, and secondary pairings. Some fics, particularly those with a more complex plot, have quite a few themes, secondary characters, and secondary pairings present within them. I always list everything in the written portion of the post in case they make readers want to (or not want to) read a fic, but Tumblr has a tag limit that most people aren’t aware of. (I wasn’t aware of it until I started this blog, to be honest). I can only add thirty of them in the tag area, which is more than a little frustrating for organizational purposes, but unfortunately that’s just the way that it is. I’ve been trying to make sure that the under-represented tags are in the working section, but obviously that’s not always possible. [EDIT: I may have found a way to get around this particular issue, but I’m currently doing a a trial run to see if it works. Please work under this assumption for now.]

Thank you for letting me know about the “Warlock Mark Reveal” tag though. That’s an error that I have since gone in and fixed. I double checked all of the other theme links while I was already knee-deep in coding and that was the only mistake in that section, so everything there (that has been used in recs) should work. Please let me know if you continue having problems with links taking you to a different tag than they’re labeled.

A Few Housekeeping Matters

I hope everyone’s week is going well so far! I have made some alterations on the blog and want to take a quick moment to address a few of them.

Tags Index Page: I have updated the contents and revised the set-up for the Tags Index Page. You’ll notice a few differences, as well as a few additions. Please let me know if you run into any inconsistencies or mistakes. I tried to double check everything, but I apologize in advance for anything that I may have missed.

Blue Eyes vs. Hazel Eyes Issue: One of the additions you may notice are two new tags in Alec’s Character Themes section: “Blue-Eyed Alec” and “Hazel-Eyed Alec”. This is in response to several recent posts in the tag about people being frustrated with Blue-Eyed Alec being represented in fics that are tagged “Shadowhunters” on A03. While I tend to feel similarly, there are some fantastic fics that unfortunately describe Alec as having blue eyes but fit every other piece of criteria that I use to rec fics. I do not want to lose quality simply in the name of avoiding these fics, but I also do not want to minimize people’s understandable complaints. In order to balance this, I have created these new tags. If a fic specifies one or the other, I will be sure to tag them from here on out. I will also eventually be going back through the recs that I have already posted in order to comply with this.

Admin Note

I just need to take a quick second to touch base with everyone. School is starting to become chaotic, as final exams loom a month away and I only have about a month and a half until my thesis defense date. Obviously that takes a toll on how much time I can spend reading and, by extension, reccing fics. My thesis determines whether or not I can graduate in August, so it has to come first. Posts may become a bit more infrequent until the end of May, but I’ll try to post at least one or two recs per day in order to keep this blog active. At this time, I am not planning on going on hiatus. If it comes to that, I’ll definitely let you know.

Despite posts sometimes being inconsistent, this blog has gained over 600 followers in just over 7 weeks. I never expected that level of support when I started it and I’m honestly pretty blown away by it. If you stick with me through the next few months, I promise a thank-you / celebratory-post-thesis event in June and July. Thanks for your continued support!

Admin Note

I hope you enjoyed all of the 2A-based fic recs! I’m honestly amazed by all of the support the series received, so thanks for that! I’m thinking of doing something similar after 2B airs, but we’ll see. Either way, they will be recced here eventually regardless so there’s that to look forward to.

We’re back to a regular schedule of two to four fic recs a day now. I’m working on a few submitted requests that will hopefully be up soon as well. I also have something planned for June and July (once my thesis is complete and I’m free from school), so stay tuned for that.

As always, thank you for the likes, reblogs, and follows! I hope you continue to like the upcoming content!

Having withdrawals from 2A?

Me too! In order to deal with it, I’ll be posting fic recs related to each episode from the first half of Season 2 for the next ten days. I have listed the posting schedule below.

  • Monday, March 13: 2×01, “This Guilty Blood”
  • Tuesday, March 14 & Wednesday, March 15: 2×02, “A Door Into the Dark” and 2×03, “Parabatai Lost”
  • Thursday, March 16 and Friday, March 17: 2×04, “Day of Wrath” and 2×05, “Dust and Shadows”
  • Saturday, March 18: 2×06, “Iron Sisters”
  • Sunday, March 19: 2×07, “How Are Thou Fallen”
  • Monday, March 20: 2×08, “Love is a Devil”
  • Tuesday, March 21 & Wednesday March 22: 2×09, “Bound by Blood” and 2×10, “By the Light of Dawn”

The amount of recs that will be posted each day varies, as it really depends on how many fics have been posted about the specific episode.

For obvious reasons, some have more than others. However, I have tried my best to include as many as possible. Keep in mind that there may also be some overlap, as the episodes often do the same, which is why some episodes are listed together in the schedule.

Everything is already queued up and ready to go. You have a lot of fic recs coming the next week and a half, so sit back, relax, and enjoy!

3 Weeks; 200 Followers

I’m so grateful for the amount of support this blog has received in the short time it has been active. It really means the world. I hope you continue to enjoy the fics as much as I enjoy recommending them. Thanks again!

Admin Note

Nothing in the queue for the next few days, but I’ve been working really hard on something that will start this coming Monday. I really hope you will all be as excited about it as I am. More information on this project will be posted this weekend, so stay tuned. Thanks for your patience!
