My favorite part of reading fic is honestly the experience itself. I used to love reading books when I was younger and as I got more into fandoms I started reading a lot of fic. Over the years I’ve read all kinds of varieties of fics, from simple fluffy canon based oneshots to long drawn out AUs. I appreciate all of the time that authors put into creating or recreating the world around the characters. How someone can make little nods to canon in an AU fic, how the characterization can be done so well, and mostly how the story itself can suck me in for ages. I’ve once stayed up until almost 3am just lying in bed finishing a really good fan fiction story. And I love how all the authors out there are so grateful for the readers, how us reading and encouraging them can boost their confidence and inspire them. Because fan fiction is just another way for fans to express their love for a character or pairing in a TV show, and writers deserve a safe space for their fan based writings. Not to mention reading fic has given me more knowledge on different things. So thank you to all writers for writing amazing fics that can make us laugh, cry, and sometimes even just smile. Thank you for sharing your inspiration with all of us.

I remember (before posting myself) reading fanfictions and being so impressed by how many talented writers there are in the Shadowhunters fandom. (My fam!) That inspired me and, having experience, having written a lot myself, I decided to try it too. I decided quickly that I wanted too share it, cause I wanted feedback on what I wrote and also that I know how much fans enjoy fanfiction. I thought maybe they’d enjoy mine, and I liked that idea. I have a lot of great moments, mostly fans just telling me they really enjoyed my work. But a few that has stood out to me are when people say I could be an actual writer!! Like what?? I would lie if I said it hasn’t crossed my mind, but just hearing or reading someone say that is so amazing. That I could be good enough to be a published author? Wow. That means the world to me! You always doubt yourself as a writer, I’m sure every writer can relate to that, but positive feedback can just make that go away. I’m so grateful for that!

I like reading fanfics because I’m in awe of other authors’ creativity with the alternate universe scenarios, and I kinda envy the attention span these authors have to write fanfics 20+ chapters long because I don’t have that; I have a mad appreciation for people who take the time to really think their fanfics through to such detail and make it work and that’s what makes them such a joy to read.

Fanfictions mean a lot to me. They are my escape from reality. They really make me feel good and feel like that there is something good out there in the world. I think that fanfic writers have amazing creativity and the amount of work they put in to make the fanfic a good and enjoyable one is immense. Fanfic writers are truly an immense part of the fandom and no amount of gratitude is enough.

This Just In

winchestersnco:

I just read this from a blogger/writer I admired and looked up to: “writing fanfic won’t prepare you creatively to write original content and it’s not real writing.”

And I just have to say: FUCK THAT.

Writing fanfic has done nothing BUT prepare me to write original content. If it weren’t for writing fic, I’d have never attempted nanowrimo, I would have never outlined that novel, or even thought about it. If it weren’t for fanfic, I would never believe that I could do it. I would never have believed I could be a writer.

TO MY FELLOW FANFIC AUTHORS:

Fanfic is so much more than just twisting stories to fit the world these characters live in. It is us creating original work that is sometimes better than what the show gives us. It is us stretching creative muscles that maybe we’ve never stretched before. It is us cultivating a talent that we love and enjoy. I’m proud of all of you. I’m proud that you’ve put pen to paper and fingers to keyboards. I’m proud that you’ve done it when it seems there was no decent feedback. I’m proud that you’ve posted what you’ve written, because that shit is scary. I’m proud of you.

So keep writing. Keep showing your favorite characters love. Keep bringing those stories to life.

Because Fanfic Writers ARE real writers.

And don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise.

xoxo, me

I like the control that I have in writing fics, as odd as that sounds, in that whatever happens to the characters, what happens through the plot or the setting the fic is centered in is, for the most part, up to me – my muse can be quite fickle, and sometimes things don’t quite turn out the way I want them to, but that in itself is also part of the fun. Character studies are always fun, because development is really important to me, and I enjoy delving deeper into the traits of the character and exploring it further; another very fun thing to do is take the characters, as they exist, and twist things – be it their surroundings, the universe they are in, and sometimes even the circumstances they find themselves in. It is, to me, a writer’s joy in throwing characters into an unfamiliar situation and seeing how they handle it.

Being able to write and publish fanfics for this fandom is such an amazing thing! I never thought in a million years that I would ever write fanfiction, but now that I am now, I can’t imagine not doing it. There is always the fear that no will like your fic after you’ve published it, but you shouldn’t let that fear stop you from doing what you love.

I love ALL fanfics and I know how hard it is to write even with writers block so thanks fanfic writers.

I want to thank all the fic authors who spend time sharing their imagined worlds with us. Writing is hard work! Without them contributing to the fandom, we would be much poorer for it.

I love reading. Always have, always will. So when I discovered Fanfic, I was really really really happy, because sometimes, canon content just isn’t enough. I’m really grateful for pretty much everything I’ve been able to read in my 15+ years of being in fandom, and for all that content I have only the authors to thank. I know this is something you do for free, so I want to thank you for all the time and dedication you put into your stories. It’s a job with very few rewards and, as a reader, I’ve tried to be better at leaving kudos or comments (even if it’s just incoherent keysmash squealing), but I know I still have a long way to go. Lots of love to all writers, you are appreciated ❤
