You Decide What’s Posted Every Friday in June & July!
During the Annual Review, participants overwhelmingly voted for the Tag a Day Event to be repeated. Planning this event was extremely time-consuming and I’m simply not in a place where I can comfortably commit to that at the moment. However, I have decided to combine elements from this event with elements from the Fic Preference Poll in order to allow for a bit more reader participation throughout June.
Here’s how it works:
Beginning today, a poll will be posted every Wednesday with several thematic tags that currently can be found on the Tags Index page.
These polls will remain open Wednesday through Friday, permitting readers to vote on which tag they would like to see represented in fic recs posted on the following Friday. The results of the poll will be posted on Saturday morning.
The thematic tags will be different in each week’s poll, allowing for a variety of choices and recs.
In the unlikely event that there is a tie between multiple thematic tags, a new poll will be opened for 24 hours on Saturday to determine the winner. The results will be posted on Sunday morning.
The poll for Week #1 of the event goes live today, Wednesday May 30th. This week’s tags? Choose between Alcohol,
“I’ve come to take you home,” he interrupted, closing the space between the door and Alec’s desk. He perched himself on the corner of the desk nearest Alec, and his hand came to grip at Alec’s chin so gently that Alec was sure he had fallen asleep and this was all a wonderful, wonderful dream.
“I still have work to do,” Alec murmured, gesturing down at the pile of paperwork on his desk.
“Absolutely not,” Magnus replied, his face drawn up in concern.
“Magnus—”
“Alexander Gideon Lightwood,” he began sternly, eyes hardened in a way that Alec recognized all too well as determination. This argument, he knew in that second, was not one he was going to win.
They’d been able to kiss languidly in a patch of sunlight until Alexander had pulled away, wrinkled his nose adorably, and confessed that he felt slightly less than fresh. The haze of morning intimacy gone, Magnus found himself agreeing – the shadowhunter was a mess. His hair was everywhere; his chest had sweated during the night; there was the glisten of drool on the right side of his mouth. Even through his adoration, Magnus had to admit his boyfriend looked slightly like garbage.
So now he’s using Magnus’ shower for the first time.
And for some reason, Magnus is having an emotional crisis over it.

“When fic authors receive comments, they know, clearly, that someone enjoyed their writing. And while leaving kudos on a fanfic also allows you to say that you enjoy what you’ve read, as a fanfic author, I can tell you that there’s nothing sweeter than getting comments on my fics. I love reading them, and knowing that people enjoy my writing when I do.”
Fanfiction has become a significant part of fandoms. Shadowhunters alone has 1,800 works on Fanfiction.net and over 17,000 works on Archive of Our Own. Fic writers have taken characters from the show and creatively dropped them into well-developed alternate universes and breathed new life into canon universe moments. Sharing their work freely with the world, they allow others in the fandom to step into their imaginings and experience their interpretations.
However, authors still often go underappreciated. This is where you come in.
Do you read Shadowhunters fics and want to show your appreciation beyond the typical comment? Sign up here to write a personalized thank you card to an author of your choice.
Use the Author Claims Listto choose which fic writer you would like to write to. The filters at the top of the page allow you to browse them based on characters, pairings, and other elements primarily featured in their fics. Please keep in mind that this sign-up process is operating on a first-come, first-serve basis.
This is designed to be a positive event, showing support for our amazing authors and helping strengthen the bond between fic readers and writers. As such, I reserve the right to disregard and/or not post any negative responses.
Although this blog recs Malec-centric fics, everyone in the Shadowhunters fandom is welcome to participate in this event regardless of what pairings you prefer or kinds of fics you write.
However, this blog is also dedicated to healthy representations of characters and relationships based firmly on equality. I reserve the right to deny the opportunity for participation to those who write homophobic and/or racist material (i.e., erasing a minority or character’s sexuality).
Whether you’re relatively new to the fandom or you’ve been here for a while, everyone is welcome to participate.
If an author and/or reader would like to participate in both parts of the event, they are more than welcome to do so.
If authors would like to participate as both a reader and writer in either part of the event, they are more than welcome to do so.
Sign-Up Process
Through another sign-up form, fic writers who wished to receive a thank you card provided me with their pseudonym and self-identifying fic information. This can now be found on the Author Claims List, which will be updated as frequently as possible throughout the sign-up process.
Thank You Card Writers will be asked to give their first name / nickname and the best way to be contacted about who they have been paired up with (Tumblr username / Twitter handle / email address).
Using the
Author Claims List, Thank You Card Writers will be asked to list their top five author choices in order from the one they would prefer to be assigned to the most (as 1) to the least (as 5). They will be paired with an author on a first-come, first-serve basis.
I am hoping that the ranking system allows participants to be assigned to at least one of their choices. In the event that all five of your choices have already been assigned, I will reach out to you via the contact information above and have you choose someone else.
If Thank You Card Writers do not have an author preference and/or are willing to write more than one thank you card (should the need arise), they will have the opportunity to note that on the form.
The sign-up form will close on June 12th at 9:00PM EST. Thank You Card Writers will receive a message within 48 to 72 hours of it closing (if they have not been contacted already) about which author they have been paired with.
Following the sign-up process, Thank You Card Writers will have nearly two months to write their personalized thank you message. It must be submitted to the appropriate form by August 1st at 9:00PM EST.
Thank You Card Writers are not responsible for purchasing or designing a physical card, paying for postage for cards that will be mailed, or getting their card to their assigned author. I will take care of all of that once all messages have been submitted.
The look on Magnus’s face is one Alec doesn’t think he’ll ever forget; his mouth slightly open, eyes wide and bright with tears. He’s looking at Alec like he’s a miracle, like he just told him he single handedly hung up every star in the sky just for Magnus to see; as if he didn’t know Alec would do anything for him.
Going to Camp Half-Blood is something Alec, a son of Apollo, looks forward to every summer, but when he arrives, he finds one of his best friends is missing. Suddenly nothing is as important as saving Magnus, even if it means going against Magnus’s father, Hades himself. With the help of Maia, Simon and Izzy, Alec goes on a journey to find his best friend, one he may be in love with, as well as the truth about why he was taken to begin with.
You may have noticed that I added a new section to the Tags Index page this morning: Crossover / Fusion Universes. I am hoping that this makes the Crossover / Fusion tag a bit easier to navigate. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask!
Magnus clenched his jaw but didn’t comment on it. He knew Ragnor was right and he also knew that Raphael had a hand in planning this interventional get-away. His friends were worried about him and Magnus knew he at least had to try to finally get his shit together—if not for himself, then for his beloved friends.
How mosquito bites and lack of proper sanitary installations would help him do so…Magnus couldn’t fathom.
An uncertain and bittersweet warmth flooded through Magnus, a revelation. There wasn’t a love potion in the world that could compare to what he felt for Alec.
