A long time ago, King Valentine, of the rich kingdom of Alicante, attacked the southerner kingdoms. He searched for triumph and annihilation, for uniting the realm under his rule and his alone. As the anniversary of his Mark Day arrives and with it the Victory Tournament, he figures the only good thing the Mortal War really brought was his father’s hostage, the quiet Alec Lightwood, eldest son to the once great Lightwoods of Alicante. Good could become great, though. Magnus needs only figure out a way to get that boy away from the practicing arena and into his bed. After all, he couldn’t possibly celebrate his day of honor without a suitable gift, could he?

Imagine A keeps leaving gifts for B (chocolates, flowers, love letters, etc) as an obvious hint that they have an admirer. Except B is dense and gets confused as to why someone keeps leaving their shit all over their desk, bag, and locker.
Alec starts receiving gifts from a ‘secret admirer’, which are sweet but unexpected. His disbelief in the possibility of anyone liking him clouds his judgement, and with each one he receives, his puzzled confusion grows. What he isn’t aware of, is that he does actually know who his secret admirer is, and whether he believes it or not – they’re a lot closer than he realises.
Magnus’ expression slipped in surprise, all his walls disappearing as Alec caught him off guard. They went straight back up, of course, once he’d gathered himself, but his eyes were softer. It was worth it, Alec thought, saying potentially embarrassing things, if he got to see the real Magnus as a result.
