Magnus has always been in that nebulous role of a lover, where the definition is fluid and dynamic, a romantic connection between souls and bodies. A husband is something entirely different. The idea of being one is – it’s frightening. The idea of being wanted as one is humbling. It’s something Magnus has never considered, seen as something that could be possible in his future. But Magnus had never expected Alec – had never expected what it would mean to be loved by a shadowhunter who is a good man and a traditional one. Who loves Magnus not just between the tangled sheets of their bed, a perfect and untouchable pocket of time and space, but also in the difficult, complicated reality of the world outside the two of them that must be navigated. Magnus doesn’t expect how much he wants it.

It’s strange, how Magnus hoards these quiet bursts of joy. As though they’ll be stolen, plucked out of Magnus if anyone but Alec knows of it. Everything still feels so – so elusive. Happy and hopeful, but also tentative. Something to nurture, to be considerate with.

–The box is made out of a dark mahogany. When Magnus picks it up with shaking fingers and without conscious thought, he sees that it has the marriage rune seared on the side in deft, elegant strokes.

Due to how busy I’ve been lately, I haven’t spent much time on Tumblr outside of queuing fic recs. However, I found out last night that someone on Wattpad is stealing Shadowhunters fics and posting them as their own. By the looks of things they haven’t just been re-posting fics from the Shadowhunters fandom, but Saphael and Malec fics are certainly a large part of them. It appears that a lot of them have been removed by the Wattpad staff over the last 24-48 hours, which is great, but as a fic rec blog I felt the need to address this issue.
It is never okay to copy and re-post someone else’s work as your own. It’s plagiarism. It’s not okay in fandom, just as it is not okay in the classroom and professional world.
These fics are not “just fucking stories.” Writing is an art form, yet these authors choose to share their talent with us for free. They have responsibilities and lives outside of producing and updating fics, but they choose to take the time out of their busy schedules to write and revise their works for our enjoyment, as well as their own. And it is work; writing is not easy. It takes a lot of time and dedication, to the point that pieces of these authors are in every single one of their fics. Fics are personal and stealing their work is wrong.
Please report plagiarism and take the time to thank the authors who share their amazing work with us. Without them, fandoms would be a much different (and darker) place. Thanks for reading!
