As cliché as it sounds, timing truly can be everything. What if Alec hadn’t had a chance to propose to Lydia yet? What if Isabelle figured out what was going on much sooner and was the one to try and help Hodge when the Institute was breached? What if Hodge was knocked out and she was left alone to fend off the Forsaken? What if she took a crushing blow that left her unable to fight back and Magnus was the one who ended up saving her life? And not just once, but yet again when they realize that Isabelle has been poisoned and needs his magical expertise in order to save her?
Timing can be everything, and yet somehow, things are still just as complicated for Alec.
He can’t help but think about how much Alec has changed. Jace has only ever wanted the best for Alec, and seeing him here with Magnus, being affectionate despite Jace’s presence in the loft speaks volumes. It’s nice to know someone loves Alec – heart and soul. Jace wouldn’t want anything less for his brother.

Magnus returns to the apartment late and drained of magic (i love this trope, just try and stop me reading and writing all the fics about this!!). Alec takes care of him, gets him to bed and looks after him when he wakes in the middle of the night with a fever. It kinda starts with cute, the middle is all practical comfort/care and ends with cute/fluffy. (That’s what i was aiming for anyway!)
He can’t believe he ever thought staying in the closet, hiding who he is, was what he planned to do for the rest of his life, can’t believe he almost missed out on having all of this. Not just Magnus, but this feeling of freedom and ease, this weight lifted from his heart, this unique feeling of being himself, of accepting himself.
